OTA 20160828 Bricked Device - non repairable

My daughters P9000 had be working fine, there was an OTA update on 20160828, after this it was in a boot loop, eventually boot loop changed to factory mode after about 7 reboots, holding powerbutton while connected to charger has blown device, the USB circuit is a fully shorted state (drawing maximum power but delivering none to the battery. Friend who is a full time repairer has looked at it, and declared it uneconomic to repair as will take too long to investigate cause which and then very likely need microsolding a new VR on the mainboard as the USB port/board itself seems to be working correctly, and problem is likely related to the induction charging circuit not correctly isolating (induction loop goes live when usb connected) if I had connected my laptop via USB3 it would have almost certainly blowed the soft fuses in the laptop at best, it certainly melted a USB3 cable with no problem at all.

Many people on elephone forums reporting being boot looped, on my experience and the evidence of not being alone, I would guess elephone is screwed. Does anybody have a suggestion? My supplier seems to believe their responsibility stops the moment I sign for the device (having had to threaten legal action and wait 6 weeks for a refund on a different P9000 that was dead on arrival).
